25650 East Lone Tree, SA-1. 52
Page 2
5. Your study indicated that the use of the Hantzsche-Fennemore Equation results added to the
3.91 mg/l nitrate nitrogen in the groundwater are above the maximum contamination level of
10 mg/1 for nitrogen. The California Regional Water Quality Control Board's Basin Plan
discourages development in areas where the maximum contamination level is greater than 10
mg/l nitrogen. You must provide data addressing how denitrification can be increased thus
reducing the amount of nitrate nitrogen to within legal limits.
If you use the Designated Level Methodology D&M criteria, please provide data and an
explanation of how this data applies to the reduction of nitrate nitrogen at this site. Your
study summary should indicate which type of septic system will correctly function for this
project site.
If you have any questions, please contact my staff person, Larry Godinho, Senior Registered
Environmental Health Specialist at (209)468-0330.
Karen Furst, M.D.,M.P.H.
Health Officer
Mike Huggins, Supervising R.E.H.S., R.D.I.
Environmental Health Division
MH:cf
cc: Bruce J.
