KLEINFELDER <br /> similarities in soil conditions and rainfall, we have chosen to use the same values deemed <br /> appropriate by Mr. Hantzsche for the project in Morada. The primary difference is that the Lone <br /> Tree Subdivision involves only one residence per 10 acres. With such a small amount of waste <br /> water applied per acre it is understandable that the nitrate loading is very low even using the <br /> worst case assumptions. Our calculations are as follows. <br /> Low Estimate <br /> Nc = 1 (2)(40)(1—.25)+(3)(2.2) <br /> .1(2)+3 <br /> 6+6.6 =3.9me/lasN <br /> 3.2 <br /> High Estimate <br /> 1 (2) 60 (1 - .1)+3 (2.2) <br /> .1(2)3 <br /> 10.8 +6.6 =5.4mg/l asN <br /> 3.2 <br /> One of the values needed to complete a nitrate loading study is the existing value of nitrate in the <br /> groundwater below the site. Based on our discussions with Mr. Huggins, we have been advised <br /> to use a background nitrate (NO,) concentration of 10 mg/l in the groundwater. While Mr. <br /> Huggins did not provide a background level of nitrate as N in the groundwater, based on <br /> previous testing by our firm the value of nitrate as N compared to NO, is usually about 25 <br /> percent. In other words, if 10 mg/1 is expected for NO,, the initial or background level of nitrate <br /> as N might be expected to be on the order of 2 to 3 mg/l. As explained earlier, the Hantzsche <br /> equation computes N,which is the calculated nitrate concentration in groundwater resulting from <br /> domestic sources and precipitation N in units of mg/1 N. With the low and high range of 3.9 to <br /> 5.4 mg/l (N) we conclude that the placement of 6 residential structures of the 10-acres parcels of <br /> the Lone Tree Subdivision will not cause a rise of nitrate levels about State standards. <br /> XI. ADDITIONAL SERVICES <br /> The review of plans and specifications, field observations, and testing by Kleinfelder, Inc. are an <br /> integral part of the conclusions and recommendations made in this report. If Kleinfelder, Inc. is <br /> not retained for these services, the client agrees to assume Kleinfelder, Inc.'s responsibility for <br /> any potential claims that may arise during construction.
