N
g t876
Saint Mary ' s High School
%3 y CELEBRATING 125 YEARS OF CATHOLIC EDUCATION
yG MA
NEC
1 gib ,y
December 11,2000
To wham It May Concern:
It is my honor to write this letter for John Eagal to support his efforts in the development of his
Nature Preserve and Ski Club. John has been extremely generous in providing his time and
knowledge in order to promote nature conservation to the youth of our community. Students
would benefit greatly from the proposed project,it would provide the opportunity to experience
first-had,aspects of nature that go beyond classroom learning situations.
John needs a permit to construct these facilities. These facilities would provide necessary
amenities that would allow a greater usage of this resort. It is my understanding that access
roads are needed along with restroom facilities and storage areas for maintenance materials.
Such improvements would improve access and usage of the resort. Improvements would make
access possible for group usage and full scale field trips to enhance the biology programs for our
school and others.
San Joaquin County currently provides natural habitat settings in the form of Science Camps for
elementary school children. The development of Eagal Lake Resort would allow younger and
older students to see an amazing habitat in their own backyard. I have been to this property with
high school students and I have been startled that such a place was within a few minutes of St.
Mary's High School.
John Eagal's love of the environment and his desire to bring nature to the local masses is indeed
commendable. Facility improvements that would allow Eagal Lake Resort to serve educational
groups would be an invaluable improvement to the educational community of San Joaquin
County. An unspoiled ecosystem is why we have created national, state, and county parks. John
Eagal's efforts allow us the chance to combine private stewardship with the public interest. I am
convinced that John's love of this land will always be preserved. John's personal care and
concern will prevent over commercialization. John's goal is to protect the environment and
operate a business, this is the perfect combination. This is an opportunity that we can't afford to
miss for future generations of San Joaquin County students and residents.
Eagal Lake Resort is the most incredible property I know of in San Joaquin County, there is no
doubt that future generations of students deserve the opportunity to visit this one of a kind
preserve. Through discussions with John Eagal,I know that this is more than business, this is his
dream. Eagal Lake Resort is one man's quest to leave a legacy for future generations. The San
Joaquin County authorities need to let this dream become a reality for the many rather a privilege
for the few . Please grant John Eagal the necessary authority to build his legacy.
Think of the children of today and tomorrow and I trust your decision will be correct.
Sincerely,
 J JCAItt-
S.
