%pe a
Number
Type of Test of Tests Presentation
Consolidated-Undrained Triaxial 1 Presented on Plate 33.
Compression, Multi-Stage
Unconsolidated-Undrained Triaxial 5 Plotted on boring logs and tabu-
Compression lated on Summary of Test Results.
A tabulated summary of the field and laboratory test results is presented on
Plates 13A through 13D. Other plotted laboratory test results are provided on
Plates 14 through 33.
GENERAL SITE CONDITIONS
Geologic Setting
San Joaquin County is in the Great Valley of California, a nearly flat
alluvial plain covering the central portion of California. The Great Valley is
about 450 miles long and typically 50 miles wide. The northern portion of the
Great Valley is called the Sacramento Valley and the southern portion is termed
the San Joaquin Valley. The project site is in the northern San Joaquin Valley.
The San Joaquin Valley is a structural trough filled with thousands of feet
of Tertiary aged marine sediments. These sediments are present below the site.
Through much of the San Joaquin Valley, Quaternary alluvium overlies the Tertiary
sequence. At the site, relatively shallow borings having depths of less than 60
feet encountered the Quaternary alluvial cover.
With the construction of the New Melones flood control dam, the site is no
longer in the 100-year flood plain. The site is, however, within the possible
inundation area below the San Luis and New Melones dams in the event of dam
failure. Groundwater is present in the Quaternary alluvium and also in the
deeper Tertiary sediments. A shallow groundwater table was encountered in the
borings drilled onsite.
Site Description
Site Location. The proposed San Joaquin Limited cogeneration plant site is
about one-half mile southeast of the Louise Road exit on Interstate 5. The
proposed site is adjacent to and southwest of Libbey-Owens Ford (LOF) Facility in
1144A/CC-8 ;'McClelland
