All hose and fittings
used must be approved for NH service. Hoses and connectors are used for
both liquid NH and vapor NH3.
3 3'
Anhydrous ammonia hose discussed in this information sheet is defined
as flexible pressure hose having an inner liner of synthetic or natural
elastomer, a reinforcing ply or plies or wire braid and an outer cover
to provide protection. Most common sizes used range from .3/4” I.D. to
3" I.D.
What' s The Problem?
When in service, agricultural ammonia hose is often subjected to mechanical
stress, physical abuse, temperature extremes and chemical contact. Hoses
are sometimes stretched, run over, left full of ammonia, kinked, nicked,
cut and left lying in places where dirt, oil, grease and chemicals can come
in contact with, the outer cover. The failure of at. ammonia hose by bursting
can cause serious injury or loss of property. To provide safe service, it
is absolutely necessary that the hose be in excellent condition and that its
physical strength is unimpaired.
How Long Should NH3 Hose Last?
The service life of NH 3 .hose may vary widely. It is not possible to pre—
dict the maximum or minimum service life of NH hose. The proper use and
care of Nd hose can greatly extend its service life and reduce the risk
ry
of serious3 accident resulting from an unwanted hose failure.
SU09ested Visual Inspection Procedures
The suggestions made here are believed to be good sound engineering
maintenance practices.
