Item No . _ 3 _
PC : 5-18- 89
L UP-89-22
Page 4
California Clean-up and Abatement Order No . 87-026 . This water
is currently being discharged into French Camp Slough. The
trichloroethene content after stripping is nondetectable. The
water quality is monitored to ensure compliance with the
drinking water standards . Of this 500,000 gallons per day,
approximately 425 , 000 gallons per day will be converted to
steam, and approximately 75 , 000 gallons per day will be
disposed of via the proposed injection well , which is discussed
below.
Sewage and Wastewater Disposal :
Sanitary sewage disposal will be provided via the Lathrop
County Water District .
The disposal of the 75 , 000 gallons per day of leftover process
water involves the use of a nonhazardous wastewater injection
well approximately 5 , 000 to 6, 000 feet deep. The water being
disposed of is anticipated to have Total Dissolved Solids (TDS)
of approximately 8 ,000 parts per million, which is less than
the TDS at the level into which the wastewater is being
. injected (approximately 10, 200 ppm) . The dissolved solids in
the leftover process water will be principally composed of
minerals that were originally in the water coming to the faci-
lity from Sharpe Army Depot . The leftover process water will
be injected and stored in two sandstone layers at a depth of
approximately 5 , 000 to 6 , 000 feet . Injected fluids are antici-
pated to migrate less than 1/4 mile horizontally away from the
well bore . Additionally, water wells in and around the site
draw fresh water from strata at depths less than 300 feet
beneath the surface. Approval of the injection well will be
required by the Environmental Protection Agency, the Regional
Water Quality Control Board, and the Local Health District .
HAZARDS/CONSTRAINTS:
Hazardous Materials:
Ammonia, a hazardous material , will be stored on-site and uti-
lized in the production process. Because of the on-site use
and storage of this material , the applicants must submit both a
Hazardous Materials Business Emergency Plan and Inventory and a
Risk Management and Prevention Plan for review and approval by
the County Office of Emergency Services prior to operation.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS :
An Initial Study was prepared on March 30, 1989, and circulated
with a proposed Negative Declaration among various State agen-
