' I
3. Drilling fluid shall be a biodegradable polymer system such as Poly-Bore, HEC,Dispack,
Kim Mud, Duel-Vis, or a clay base bentonite system (Aquagel or equivalent), provided
the properties specified below can be maintained to the satisfaction of the Engineer.
4. Contractor is advised that excessive water loss in clay zones can lead to swelling, loss of
shear strength, substantial caving, and borehole stability problems.
a. Drilling fluid used shall contain properties to inhibit this possibility.
5. Drilling fluid shall have the following properties in accordance with API Code RPI 3B(or
latest revision)"Recommended Standard Procedures for Testing Drilling Fluids".
6. Weight — a maximum of 70 pounds per cubic foot (9.4 pounds per gallon) daring the
drilling of the borehole and well construction activities.
7. Marsh Funnel Viscosity— a maximum of 50 seconds during drilling of the borehole and
well construction activities.
8. Sand Content of Mud Entering the Pump-- a maximum of three (3) percent by volume
during all aspects of drilling.
9. Water Loss—a maximum of 20 cubic centimeters per 30 minutes(20 cc/30 min)during
drilling with a wall cake thickness of no greater than 1/8 inch.
10. Only fresh water shall be used in the drilling process.
C. Geophysics
I. Borehole will be geophysical logged by Contractor under the direction of the Engineer.
2. Contractor shall notify the Engineer 24-hours before total depth of the borehole is reached.
3. Contractor shall re-circulate the mud prior to geophysical logging and will
cooperate/coordinate with the geophysical subcontractor in the acquisition of the logs.
4. Geophysical sub-contractor shall be an experienced geophysical logging contractor with
more than 5 years of experience in logging of water wells in the Central Valley of
California. Sub-contractor shall be experienced in the collection of borehole geophysical
data specified herein.
5. Geophysical logging of the borehole shall include the following:
a. Natural Gamma.
b. Single-point resistance.
c. Spontaneous-potential.
d. Short-normal, long-normal,and lateral resistivity.
e. Electromagnetic-inclusion.
f. Fluid-resistivity.
g. Log results shall be provided in electronic .LAS, .CSV or similar format for use by
engineer in evaluation. Log plots shall be provided in legible format with vertical
side-by-side results ofall logs on same, borehole depth scale.
6. Cuttings representative of strata encountered during drilling will be collected at least every
five feet(5')and at major lithology changes or as directed by the Engineer.
2.2 WELL CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS
A. The use of specific manufacturer's name and/or model or catalog number is for the purpose of
establishing the standard of quality. Preliminary Well Drawing shows the desired general
configuration only (actual depths and lengths will be determined following the acquisition of
geophysical logs).
B. Conductor Casing(if applicable/as needed by Contractor):
I. if selected, drill stem and conductor casing shall be sufficient to drill to a depth ofat least
50 feet.
GRINDSTONE JOE'S SUMMARY OF WORK
REPLACEMENT WELL 01 11 00-3 June 2S,2019
