Soil Suitability/Nitrate Loading Study
Proposed Global Carrier Inc. ■ Manteca, California 1rerracon
August 8, 2018■ Terracon Project No. NA187034
Table 3.
Summary of Laboratory Data.
DBCP*(Ng/L) EDB*(Ng/L) Nitrate as N** Nitrate as NOV*
Sample Date Sample ID MCL=0.2 pg/L MCL=0.05 (mg/L) (mg/L)
pg/L MCL=10 mg/L MCL=45 mg/L
GW1 --- --- 13 58
June 25, 2018 GW2(1 of 4) <0.010 <0.020 --- ---
GW2(2 of 4) <0.010 <0.020 --- ---
Bold-Detected above EPA maximum contaminant level(MCL),---Not analyzed for this constituent, `EPA Method E524.3, "EPA
Method E300.1
Based on a review of the laboratory results, Nitrate as N was detected in groundwater sample
GW1 at 13 mg/L, slightly above the Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL) of 10 mg/L. Nitrate as
NO3-was detected at 58 mg/L above the MCL of 45 mg/L. DBCP and EDB were reported below
laboratory detection limits for groundwater sample GW2 (1 of 4)and GW2 (2 of 4). A copy of the
laboratory report and chain of custody are included in Appendix D.
1.4.5 Groundwater Sample Handling
Refer to Section 1.4.4.
1.5 General Geologic Information and Soil Profile
The site is depicted on the Geologic Map of California 2010, as within generalized quaternary
Pleistocene and Holocene deposits which are comprised primarily of alluvium, lake, playa, and
terrace deposits; unconsolidated and semi-consolidated. Mostly nonmarine, but includes marine
deposits near the coast.
Based on a review the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Natural Resources
Conservation Service (NRCS) Web Soil Survey, site soils consist primarily of Delhi loamy sand
with 0 to 2 percent slopes. Parent material is alluvium derived from granite. Typical soil profiles
consist of 0 to 26 inches loamy sand and 26 to 60 inches sand. Approximately one percent of the
site along the northeastern border consists of Delhi fine sand with 0 to 5 percent slopes. Delhi
fine sand parent material is wind-modified alluvium derived from granitic rock sources. Typical
soil profiles consist of 0 to 60 inches fine sand. Delhi loamy sand soils and Delhi fine sand soils
are considered somewhat excessively drained.
The USDA Soil Survey of San Joaquin County indicated the main limitations of the two soil types
are rapid permeability in the substratum and potential groundwater contamination issues due to
seepage. Additionally, tillage pans may form if soils are tilled when wet and can be broken with
chiseling, ripping, or subsoil breakup.
Responsive■ Resourceful ■ Reliable 9
