Mr.Mahmoud Parvar ...
Page 4
January 26,2000
DISCUSSION OF SOIL CONDITIONS ENCOUNTERED
Visual classification of each soil stratum encountered according to ASTM D2488 (Visual-
Manual Procedure)was made in the field by a geotechnical engineer at the time the test holes were
drilled.- The samples obtained were checked in the laboratory and classification verified according.
to ASTM D2487. A classification as well as a graphical representation of each soil encountered is
presented on the boring log sheets: The test boring legend is presented on Plate No. 10.
The soils encountered in the test holes were reasonably consistent between test holes.
Generally the profile encountered consisted of several feet of a silty sand/sandy silt(top soil), 10 feet
of silty sand(fill sand), and 30 feet of clean.sand(concrete sand). Towards the bottom in 3 of the
-- 4 test holes, a silty clay stratum was encountered. In test hole B-4, two 9 foot clay strata were
encountered before the clean sand was encountered at a depth of 30 feet. For a more detailed
description of the soils encountered in the test holes see the log of boring sheets.
Based on the results of the laboratory tests the material encountered in the test holes, other
then the clay soils,falls into one of three categories; 1)top soil,2)fill sand,or 3)concrete sand(with
some processing). All of these are products which are currently being mined and produced at the
adjacent Brown Sand&Gravel pit, located south of the subject parcel. Table 3 presents a summary
of the boring information obtained.
TABLE 3, SUMMARY OF SAND DEPOSITS
Thickness of Soil Strata,feet
- Test
Hole Top Clay Fill Clay Concrete
Soil Soil Sand Soil Sand
B-1 2 0 12 0 31
B-2 7 0 12 0 29
B-3. 2 0 20 0 26
134 6 9 6 9 19
Average Thiclmess 4.25 2.25 1 12.5 2.25 26.25
Ground water was first encountered in each of the test holes at depths ranging from 14.5 to
21 feet. These depths should only be considered.approximate. Since the lower portions of the holes
collapsed upon removal of the auger and the holes were backfilled immediately, an accurate
measurement of the ground water depth was not possible. Ground water depths can and will
_ fluctuate seasonally.
_ ?pE RJO
r ti
> w
O -
1JrOG
r
