INTRODUCTION
Our office was retained by Our Lady of Sorrows Society to conduct a Soil
Suitability/Nitrate Loading Study for property located at 8544 Oak Street west of Alice Avenue
and east of Thornton Road within the town of Thornton, San Joaquin County, California(Plate
1). The Assessors Parcel Number(APN) is 001-19-02 & 60 (Plate 2).
The Soil Suitability/Nitrate Loading Study was conducted to determine if the area is
suitable for a septic system and was performed according to the requirements of Section 10100 a
and b of San Joaquin County Development Title. Major elements of the field work included an
exploratory soil boring, a ground-water nitrate test and a in-situ percolation test. A summary of
this information along with a review of local soil, geologic, and ground water information and a
nitrate loading calculation was used to estimate the potential impact of a septic system to the
ground water. This report presents the results of our study.
II. PROPOSED DEVELOPMENT
The Chapel is located on a rectangular shaped parcel with the approximate dimensions of
253.5 ft(north) by 108.5 (east)by 223.59 ft(south) by 100.0 ft (west) with an estimated area of
24,752 ftZ or 0.57 acres+- (Plate 2). The site has a new Catholic Chapel building for prayer for
50 persons. We understand that drinking water will be provided by County water service and no
water wells exist on the property. The intended use for the chapel building is for prayer and no
on-site cooking or food preparation will occur. The proposed septic system shall use a 1,200
gallon septic tank and shall be designed for use up to 50 people. Typical use is expected to be
much less than 50 and possibly as few as five (5)to ten(10) persons per day during the week.
