_ Cotta Property Page 6 of 12
Our Project Number: LES080021
March 28, 2008
According to Ms. Gallego, when a chemical for which a permit has been issued is applied to a
Feld, the use report must be filed with the Agricultural Commissioner. The use reports do not
include chemicals for which a permit is not required.9
The EPA's Restricted Use Products (RUP) Report10 was searched for the chemicals reportedly
applied to the subject property. Based on this source, it appears that, of the agricultural
chemicals reportedly applied to the subject property, only those containing chlorpyrifos,
lambda-cyhalothrin and paraquat dichloride are RUPs. The U.C. Davis Extension Toxicology
Network (EXTOXNET) web site" was consulted for additional information on these chemicals.
According to EXTOXNET, chlorpyrifos is toxicity class II - moderately toxic. The EPA has
established a 24-hour reentry interval for crop areas treated with emulsifiable concentrate or
wettable powder formulations of chlorpyrifos unless workers wear protective clothing. Products
containing chlorpyrifos bear the Signal Word WARNING or CAUTION, depending on the toxicity
of the formulation.
According to EXTOXNET, lam bda-cyhaloth rin is a synthetic pyrethroid insecticide and acaricide
used to control a wide range of pests. It is moderately toxic in the technical form, but may be
highly toxic via some routes in formulation. Lambda-cyhalothrin is moderately persistent in the
soil environment, with a field half-life close to 30 days in most soils.
According to EXTOXNET, paraquat is a quaternary nitrogen herbicide classified as an RUP and a
highly toxic compound in EPA toxicity class I. Many cases of illness and/or death have been
reported in humans. The compound is moderately toxic to birds and many aquatic organisms.
The chemical is highly persistent in the soil environment, with reported field half-lives of greater
than 1000 days. Studies have shown the half life in water to be as fast as 13.1 hours and up to
23 weeks.
3.1.5 Water Supply and Sewage Disposal System
Two domestic wells and one septic system are located on the subject property.
The EHD well and septic permit files were searched on March 7, 2008 in an effort to obtain
copies of permits for any water wells or septic tanks on the subject property; no permits were
found.
3.1.6 Department of Oil Gas and Geothermal Resources
The California Department of Oil, Gas, and Geothermal Resources (DOGGR) well map 61012 was
reviewed for evidence of oil or gas wells on or in the vicinity of the subject property. No wells
are depicted within one-quarter mile of the subject property.
e Personal Communication, November 28, 2005.
10 U.S. Environmental Protection Agency(EPA),June 2003, Restricted Use Products(RUP) Report.
" University of California, Davis, Extension Toxicology Network(EXTOXNET), http://extoxnet.orst.edu/ghindex.html
2 California Department of Oil, Gas,and Geothermal Resources, well map 610.
,.*44
902 Industrial Way•Lodi,CA 95240•209.367.3701 •Fax 209.369.4228 ©2008 Nei!O.Anderson&Associates.Inc.
