Tretheway Road
Lockeford, CA 95237 ✓:!'c•'-
REQUEST FOR REPORT OF WASTE DISCHARGE, MOKELUMNE RIM VINEYARDS, SAN
JOA QVIN COUNTY, ACAMPO, SAN JOA QUIN COUNTY
I have reviewed the 20 November 2000 Application Referral No. UP-00-12, distributed by the San
Joaquin County Community Development Department. The application describes construction of a wine
processing and tasting facility in Acampo. The Board previously commented on the application in a
2 August 2000 correspondence to Ms. Tina Wehrmeister, copied to R&G Shatz Farm.
Winery wastewater contains chemicals that can degrade surface and groundwater quality if not properly
handled and disposed of. Therefore, Waste Discharge Requirements (WDRs) must be adopted by the
Regional Board before the wastewater can be discharged. To obtain WDRs, you must first submit a
Report of Waste Discharge (RWD).
Consistent with California Water Code Section 13260, you are required to submit an RWD at least 120
days prior to discharging wastewater. Adoption of the WDRs can take longer than 120 days depending on
the completeness of the RWD. You are encouraged to submit the RWD as soon as possible so that
adoption of the WDRs does not delay your ability to operate during the crush season. Discharging
wastewater without first securing WDRs is a violation of the California Water Code and exposes the
discharger to enforcement actions, including fines.
This letter constitutes a formal request for a Report of Waste Discharge (RWD) for the Mokelumne Rim
Vineyards facility. An RWD consists of the Form 200 Application/Report of Waste Discharge General
Information (enclosed), a filing fee, and the answers to the Additional Questions. The RWD shall be
prepared in a unified report by a California Registered Engineer. The RWD, at a minimum, shall address
the Additional Questions; it shall also include any additional information required to explain the site
specific processes.
The filing fee is based on the threat and complexity of the discharge, as described in the enclosed filing
fee schedule. We have determined that this discharge is categorized as 2C, with a$900 annual fee.
Therefore, the RWD is to include a$900 check, made payable to the State Water Resources Control
Board.
California Environmental Protection Agency
l Recycled Paper
