Page 2 (cont.)
7) Should the trucks and trailers be used for the hauling and storage of hazardous
materials, this would pose a potential for harm to not only the immediate
neighborhood but also an extended area, including Micke Grove Park.
8) Ammonium nitrate, which is the active ingredient in most fertilizers used in
the surrounding agricultural area, mixed with diesel fuel from leaking or
ruptured tanks, creates a violent, explosive mixture.
9) The area is zoned I-T(Truck Terminal) and the General Plan designation is
I/T(Truck Terminal). Section 9-500.1(e)of the County Ordinance defines an
I-T zone in part"...to provide a location for truck terminals outside urban
communities..." The continuing residential construction that is occurring in
the area just south of Eight Mile Road certainly changes the surrounding area
to an urban community. The truck terminal will no longer be"outside"of this
expanding urban community when the residential construction is completed.
10) The proposed entrance to the truck terminal is Eight Mile Road. Large trucks
entering and exiting from the facility will add to an already congested traffic
area at Eight Mile Road and State Route 99. A lack of traffic control signals
adds to the traffic hazard that will be created by these large trucks. A better-
suited entrance would be from the West 99 Frontage, north of Eight Mile.
The application referral notice indicated that a Negative Declaration is being proposed for
adoption. Based on the comments stated above, I would disagree strongly that this
project should have a Negative Declaration. I would recommend that the Community
Development Department deny this project application. Please consider this to also be a
request to be notified of the staff determination of this project and for copies of the initial
study and proposed Negative Declaration. Should this project be referred to the Planning
Commission for a public hearing, it is my intent to attend and speak in opposition.
Thank you very much for your thoughtful consideration of this matter.
Please feel free to contact me at any time.
Sincerely:
CSerA-stopher
pa
11272 N.
