September 28, 2004
NOA Project Number: E04106A
According to the PMEP,"adequate data are not available to fully assess the toxicity of Propargite.
` While, in general, propargite is not highly toxic (Category III oral, dermal and inhalation), it is
in toxicity Category I for primary eye and skin irritation... Available data are insufficient to fully
` assess the environmental fate of propargite. From the data that exists, however, there seems to
be no reason for concern about the leaching of the parent chemical into groundwater" (1986).
his EXTOXNET states that, "while the LD50 of 2,4-D suggests that it is only moderately toxic, the
product carries the DANGER signal word on the label indicating that it is highly toxic. This is
because 2,4-D has produced serious eye and skin irritation among agricultural workers... Half-life
bin figures for the herbicide in soil are seven days... and ten days in non-sterile soil and 1.5 to 16 days
in other studies. Despite its short half-life in soil and in aquatic environments, the compound has
been detected in groundwater supplies in at least five States and in Canada" (1993).
low
According to EXTOXNET,permethrin is a moderately to practically non-toxic pesticide in EPA
IN. toxicity class II or III, but is listed as an RUP because of its possible adverse effects on aquatic
organisms. Permethrin is of low to moderate persistence in the soil environment, with reported
half-lives of 30 to 38 days (1996).
am
EXTOXNET states that most iprodione formulations are for general use, but"the use of Rovral
is... restricted to various diseases on fruit, vegetables and some crops." The half-life of iprodione
60 in soil ranges from 20 to 160 days (1996).
3.1.6 Water Supply and Sewage Disposal System
Three domestic wells and three septic systems are located on the property. The locations of these
features are indicated on the site map(Appendix A). Mr. Clark Marek was interviewed in person
bw on September 8, 2004, at which time he stated that one of the domestic wells is scheduled to be
abandoned under EHD oversight. He indicated that an additional septic tank is located at the
`, southwest corner of the barn which has never been used and will not be used in the future.
The EHD well and septic permit files were searched on September 7, 2004 in an effort to obtain
hm copies of permits for any water wells or septic tanks on the subject property. Two permits were
found for the subject property address of 13039 South Highway 99. The first permit, dated
January 21, 1971, was for the addition of 80 feet of leach line to the existing septic system at the
No primary residence. The second permit, dated June 20, 1996,was for an additional 100 feet of leach
line to be added to the same system. Two permits were found for the subject property address
of 13101 South Highway 99. The first permit, dated June 19, 1986, was for the new installation
6" of a septic system to a four-bedroom home. The second permit, dated July 10, 1986, was for the
installation of a new domestic well.
9
