• Soil Suitability/ Nitrate Loading Study 1 frracon
Sun Valley Express Truck Center ■ Acampo, California
August 14, 2017 ■ Terracon Project No. NA177026
2.3.5 Nitrate Loading Scenario
A nitrate loading scenario was performed to determine the impact from the proposed project. The
scenario utilizes the variables discussed previously which represent the estimated conditions and
uses associated with this project. The following table presents a summary of the nitrate loading
calculation for the site. A copy of the nitrate loading calculation is included in Appendix B.
Table 8.
Summary of Nitrate Mass Balance Equation.
Result Average Effluent Leach Field Deep
Parcel (Nc)" Acres (A) Daily Concentration Denitrification Percolation
Effluent (Nw) of Rainfall
• (mg/L-N) (Q)(gpd) (mg/L-N) 1d1 (R) (in)
1 8.7 3.59 214 85 25 5.76
Maximum contaminant level(MCL)for nitrate in drinking water is 10 mg/L-N.
2.3.6 Impact of Nitrate Loading to Nearby Water Sources
Since the subject property is relatively flat, we do not foresee percolating effluent affecting any
surface water sources.
2.4 Discussion of Nitrate Loading Results
2.4.1 Total Nitrate Impact
Based on the method and assumptions described, the result of the nitrate loading balance
indicates that the development on the parcel should not cause a buildup of nitrates in the aquifer
above 10 mg/L-N.
2.4.2 Methods of Mitigation
•
Because of the favorable result of the nitrate loading calculation, no mitigation measures are
warranted.
3.0 CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
In summary, the soil conditions at the site consist of low permeable sandy silt near the surface
which was underlain by low permeable cemented silty sand "hardpan". The hardpan was
underlain by a clayey sandy silt at 20 feet bgs extending to the maximum depth explored of 25
feet bgs. Given the low permeable soil conditions near the surface, our shallow percolation test
failed to meet standard minimum 60 minutes per inch by EHD for the sole use of leach lines,
•
Responsive n Resourceful Reliable 15
