5.0 SOIL PROFILE INFORMATION SECTION:
5.1 Site map showing location, with dimensions, of the soil profile pit on the parcel: See
Appendix.
5.2 Description of soil profile pit including depth and dimensions: The shallow test holes
were prepared per County Standards. The holes were excavated to a depth of 42 inches and
8 inches in diameter. They were backfilled with 2 inches of"pea gravel."
The deep holes were prepared per County Standards. Deep hole 1 was drilled to a depth of 22
feet, hole 2 was drilled to approximately 24 feet, and hole 3 was drilled to a depth of 23 feet. A
2 inch diameter PVC pipe with perforations on the bottom was used to measure the drop of water
in the percolation test boring. Approximately 2 inches of"pea gravel' were placed in the bottom
of test boring; the PVC was installed on top of the gravel. 'Pea gravel' was backfilled in the
annular space.
5.3 Description of soil lithology as noted from test pit by appropriate professional using
industry standard protocol: The soil in this area is classified as Redding gravelly loam and
as stated in the Soil Survey of San Joaquin County, California as provided by the United States
Department of Agriculture, Soil Conservation Service.
5.4 Discussion of soil lithology as related to future onsite septic uses: The Redding gravel
loam have very low permeability thus; percolation rates were slow as demonstrated by the
failure of two shallow percolation tests. (See Appendix).
6.0 PERCOLATION TEST INFORMATION SECTION
6.1 Site Map Showing the location, with concise and accurate dimensions of the percolation
test holes on the parcel: See Appendix.
6.2 The Minimum Number of Shallow and Deep Percolation Tests was Performed for Each
Parcel: Four shallow percolation test holes were prepared, one on each proposed parcel. Two
deep holes were prepared due to failure of two of the shallow tests.
6.3 Description of the Date, Time and Protocol Used to Prepare the Test Hole, Including
Depth and Dimensions of Hole, Preparation of Hole, and Depth of Water Used to Presoak
(Minimum 12 Inches): The shallow test holes were excavated to a depth of 42 inches and
8 inches in diameter and backfilled with 2 inches of"pea gravel' in accordance with County
Standards. The shallow holes were prepared by Louie Mendez of Dillon & Murphy on
April 26, 2005. On May 4, 2005 at 7:30 a.m. the 24 hour presoak period was started. The holes
were filled with 12 inches of water over the gravel and at this time. Environmental Health
Department was notified of the start of the test.
Since two of the shallow tests failed,Neil O. Anderson& Associates (Anderson)were retained
to dig deep percolation tests. Anderson dug the deep holes on May 20, 2005 and May 23, 2005.
3
c:\0466\Soil Report
