2. Launch Ramp:
Dry boat storage would be useful and convenient
with a launching ramp. However, provision of
storage areas would be a waste of space without
one.
A launching ramp could contribute to the popularity
and success of the marina. People who wish to make
one day boat trips would not be required to travel
to other marinas to launch their craft and then
travel back to park at the proposed marina. Indeed,
such travelling would not be convenient nor worthwhile.
Therefore, a launching ramp would provide access to
people who do not choose to rent covered berth spaces
but who still would like to utilize the marina ' s
facilities.
F. Mitigation Measures Proposed to Minimize the Significant
Effects :
1. Conversion of Agricultural Land:
The entire parcel will not be used for the marina
or parking for recreational vehicles. The feasi-
bility of a dry boat storage area and auto and
trailer parking is highly dependent on the develop-
ment of a launching ramp. Should the launching
ramp be omitted, then less space would be converted
to the marina. It is conceivable that seven of the
33 acres need be converted. The remainder could
continue to be in agriculture.
2. Minimize Damage to Levees :
The waterway side of the levee is currently laid
with rock and concrete rip-rap. As presently con-
ceived the vegetation, which also line the levee,
will not be uprooted. More concrete rip-rap may
be necessary to reduce erosion from boat wakes.
The landward side of the levee will require fill
and grading to accommodate the entrances onto the
parcel. The fill will consist of a mineral base
and not the less stable peat material. In addition
vegetation will. be planted to landscape the marina.
As mentioned earlier, careful attention must be made
in selecting propert plants so adequate care and
monitoring can be maintained on the levee.
26 -
