File No. 20-3698-01 KLEINFELDER
February 16, 1993
On January 29, 1993, a representative of our firm visited five residences located
off Northland and Austin Roads at the approximate locations indicated on Plate I.
The purpose of the visits was to obtain information regarding septic system use and
problems with this method of sewage disposal, and to measure groundwater in
accessible wells near the site. The residents reported having no problems with the
performance of their septic systems. All residents indicated that their wells
provided "good" quality water; however, one resident reporting his water was high
in nitrate content and they use a softener.
Our representative also performed a review of County septic system permit records.
The records do not contain any recent permits for residences in the site area.
ITEM C-2:
"The suitability of the soil for development utilizing septic systems;"
On February 10, 1993 a representative of our firm drilled and set-up one
approximate 3-foot deep percolation test hole on each of the proposed parcels at the
approximate locations shown on Plate I. The test holes were drilled with hand
drilling equipment using a 6-inch diameter continuous-flight auger. Perforated PVC
pipe was inserted into the test holes to prevent disturbance when adding water. The
test holes were filled with relatively clean water and were left to soak overnight.
On February 11, 1993, our representative returned to the site to perform the
percolation tests. As per San Joaquin County guidelines, the tests were performed
for a period of four hours. The last 30 minutes of each test were used to calculate
the percolation rates. In order to use standard leach lines, the County requires a
percolation rate of 60 minutes per inch, or faster. The tests performed passed with
percolation rates of 20 and 60 minutes per inch for the tests on the proposed
"parcel 1" and "parcel 2," respectively. The County approved percolation test
sheet is included with this report.
ITEM C-3:
"The depth and gradient of the water table;"
During our surveys on January 29, 1993, we were able to measure groundwater in
wells located at two of the five locations visited (locations 3 and 5 on Plate 1).
Groundwater was measured at depths of approximately 40 and 43 feet below
existing ground surface at locations 3 and 5, respectively. The regional
groundwater depth map published by the San Joaquin County Flood Control and
Water Conservation District, Plate I1, indicates the depth to groundwater in this
area was approximately 40 to 50 feet in spring 1992.
Copyright 1993 Kleinfelder, Inc.
