This chart illustrates that evapotranspiration far exceeds precipitation, even when using higher
rainfall data that exceeds normal rainfall data by 56%. Only in the months of January, February,
November and December could deep percolation potentially occur. This data also illustrates a
relatively high potential for there to be significant evapotranspiration from the filter bed surface.
III. NITRATE LOADING STUDY FINDINGS
A. WASTEWATER FLOW PROJECTIONS AND CHARACTERISTICS
The characteristics of the wastewater flow to be ultimately disposed of to the soil environment
will be a combination of domestic wastewater flows from the very small blackwater and
graywater flows from the office bathroom and kitchen, a washer machine, a dishwasher and wash-
down and bath water from the dog kennels that will consist only of dog urine, and not fecal
matter. Fecal matter is currently picked up by hand at the existing facility and will be for this
proposed expansion facility. It is bagged and disposed of as solid waste. Disposing of dog fecal
matter as a solid waste will prevent concentrated organic loading, significantly reduce nitrate
loading, and prolong the lifespan of the wastewater disposal system.
WASTEWATER FLOW VOLUME PROJECTIONS
Many variables are involved in estimating wastewater Average Daily Flows (ADF). Given these
variables are unknown but do not typically vary dramatically from what can be realistically
estimated, flow volumes will be estimated based upon these realistic parameters, which has been
acceptable to EHD. The main issue with regard to wastewater flows from this project, is that all
water use and therefore subsequent wastewater generation, must be kept as low as possible.
Beginning with the dog kennels, it is proposed to house a maximum of 28 dogs. Wash-downs of
the 28 dog kennels will occur every day, and a thorough washing of the kennels twice each month.
Approximately four dogs are bathed each day. The following list itemizes the remaining sources
of wastewater and summarizes the anticipated gallons per day(gpd)water usage/volumes from
each source:
• Daily kennel wash-downs at 2 gals/kennel x 28 kennels= 56 gpd
• Thorough wash-downs 2x per month at 3 gallons x 28 kennels=6 gpd averaged
• Approximately four dogs are bathed each day x 2 gals/dog= 8 gpd
• Washing machine use= 7 loads/day x 20 gals/load= 140 gpd
• Dishwasher use=2x/day x 15 gals/load=30 gpd
• Four employees using 10 gals restroom/kitchen use/day=40 gpd
This gives a total estimated wastewater flow volume of: 56+6 + 8 + 140 +30 +4 =280
from the new kennel facility.
