"— 'a.a GVy B' LGl . Dluuub luC CUU1
1
To: Mr. Kai Luoma
San Joaquin County Community Development Department
From: Robert Stewart + ,v
26002 E. River Rd.
Escalon, CA 95320
Regarding: Application Number QX-89-02
Aggregates, Inc
Co: George Reed, Inc.
Dear Mr. Luoma,
I am responding to your request for comments regarding the"Main Riverbank" (Geo
Reed) operation on River Rd. in Escalon.
While I can't comment on what goes on behind the gates of this operation, I can attest to
the many hazards it poses for the River Rd. area of Escalon. The noise and air pollution
created by the trucks making their way to and from the site are almost constant. To make
matters worse the trucks park alongside River Rd. to spray diesel fuel onto the beds of
their trailers. Not only do these trucks create a traffic hazard, especially in the fog, it
would seem to me that the spraying of diesel fuel would pose an environmental hazard as
well_ These trucks often park directly in front of our property. When asked to move, the
truckers rarely oblige, stating that the gravel plant does not let them spray diesel on the
facility premises so they must do it on River Rd_ If the spraying of diesel is not allowed
at the gravel plant, why should it by allowed on River Rd?
An additional hazard exists as the trucks enter and exit the plant without stopping. My
family and myself have had numerous close calls as these truckers who are obviously
trying to haul as many loads as possible speed in and out of the facility. I have
complained to personnel at the gravel plant repeatedly about the hazards posed by the
trucks. My complaints have always been meet with indifference.
Mr. Luoma, I have listed only a few of the negative aspects of the George Reed facility
on River Rd. I look forward to the opportunity to further discuss this issue at the public
hearing.
Thank you for your time.
Please don't hesitate to call if you have any questions.
i
ncerely,
Robert Stewart
work-522-9011
home-838-2286
