Laboratory Analysis of Soil Samples
Soil samples were submitted to A&L Western Agricultural Laboratories in Modesto, California, for
analysis of the following constituents:
• Organic Matter
• Estimated Nitrogen Release
• Phosphorus (Weak Bray and Sodium Bicarbonate-P)
• Extractable Cations (Potassium, Magnesium, Calcium, and Sodium)
• pH
• Cation Exchange Capacity
• Computed Percent Cation Saturation
• Soluble Salts
• Excess Lime
Refer to Test Results, Appendix IIB.
Soil Physical Properties Analysis
Soil type #193: This soil is approximately 80% of the total soil at the existing site.
Name: Madera sandy loam, 0 to 2% slopes.
This moderately well drained, nearly level soil is on low terraces. It is moderately deep to a
hardpan.
Typically, the surface layer is grayish brown and brown sandy loam about 19 inches thick. The
upper 4 inches of the subsoil is brown sandy clay loam. The next 6 inches is a claypan of light
reddish brown clay. The lower part to a depth of 60 inches is a pale brown and brown, indurated,
iron- and silica- cemented hardpan. In some areas the surface layer is fine sandy loam or loam.
Included in this unit are small areas of Alamo soils in drainageways, Exeter and Jahant soils in
landscape areas. Also included are small areas of Madera soils that have slopes of 2 to 5 percent
and areas where depth to the hardpan is as little as 10 inches and most of the soil has been
removed, altered, or exposed as a result of deep leveling cuts. Included areas make up about 15
percent of the total acreage.3
Soil type #195: This is approximately 20% of the soil at the site.
Name: Madera-Alamo complex, leveled, 0 to 1 percent slope.
This soil is 65% Madera sandy loam and 20% an Alamo soil that has overburden of sandy loam.
The Alamo soil was originally in old drainageways prior to leveling. Included in unit are small
areas of Jahant and San Joaquin soils that have been ripped or leveled and have remnants of
claypan and hardpan materials through out the profile.
Refer to page 30 for Endnotes and Reference Sources
Soil Suitability Study
Property Name and Address: Frank Faria Dairy, Inc.,12182 S.Robinson Road, Escalon,CA 95320
Page 24
Western Design/David Avila 2001
