In fart, I was born on Roberts Island in
1897 . I returned to Roberts Island after being discharged
from rhe First World War and became a farmer, starting by
driving horses , as the mode of power.
I remember like yesterday, in 1928 when we organized the
Roberts Union Farm Center in the Roberts Island greenbelt
area. We built our building and all of us farmers worked
together creating one of the finest spreads of agricultural
land I know of in the world, and I have traveled to 47
countries.
Within the last 30 days, I have traveled in depth into San
Francisco County, San Mateo County, Monterey County, Santa
Clara County, and Alameda County.
It has been 16 years s_nce I have traveled that countryside
in depth and I was simply amazed at what has happened to
those five wonderful counties , where 16 years ago there was
space for what I would call good living.
I covered 800 miles with my grandson ( 16 years old) driving,
That we might get better acquainted and let this
` ^ee hat California looks like now, so he will be
r.z,
a,re. what it will look like when it becomes his
is ,1 .
