(AGS) and the existing 120 foot communications tower will be replaced with a 140 foot tall
communications tower.
Regional site access will be provided by Roth Road via the 1-5/Roth Road interchange, French Camp Road
via the State Route 99/French Camp interchange, and Lathrop Road via the State Route 99 freeway.
Primary access to and from the facility for all trucks and employees will be from a relocated driveway on
Roth Road. Employees who work in the maintenance building will enter the facility via an existing driveway
on the south end of the project site from Lathrop Road.
The major components of the facility are as follows:
Track extensions
The proposed project will include the addition of four new support tracks, the conversion of one working
track into a support track, the lengthening of that track, three new working tracks, and the lengthening of
two existing working tracks. This track infrastructure expansion will provide enough capacity for
approximately 124 double-stack units and up to 21 locomotives to be staged on the site, compared to the
existing capacity for 51 double-stack units and 4 locomotives. The distance of total track will be increased
from 15,495 track feet(TF)to 36,476 TF at full buildout.
The proposed project will significantly expand the available area for loading and unloading operations,
both in terms of uninterrupted track length and overall track length on parallel track segments. The ramp
area for loading and unloading will expand from one working track of 5,800 feet and three parallel working
tracks, to five support tracks and five working tracks, ranging from 7,000 feet to more than 8,000 feet of
uninterrupted length, without requiring new crossings over the local roadway network. Currently, trains
longer than 5,800 feet must be handled in two to three sections to fit them on the working tracks, requiring
multiple switching moves across Roth Road as the sections are broken down. After the expansion, the
majority of intermodal trains (8,000 feet or less) could be loaded and unloaded in one sequence within the
yard, requiring fewer movements of railcars, gantry cranes, switchers, hostlers, and related intermodal
equipment.
Buildings
The two buildings currently on the site include a gate building and a maintenance building. The gate
building serves as the facility administrative office building as well as the main checkpoint for trucks
entering or leaving the facility. The maintenance building serves as the general yard equipment
maintenance facility and provides some storage for small equipment parts.
Eight new buildings are proposed at the facility as follows:
• Gate building (7,140 square feet) and maintenance building (14,010 square feet)to replace existing
buildings.
• Industrial Wastewater Treatment Plant (IWTP) (100 square feet) that will house electrical and
control components for the various IWTP equipment such as pumps, oil-water separators, and
operations manuals.
• Driver Help Center (350 square feet) to serve as an information station for truck drivers. Drivers in
need of assistance from the Union Pacific gate building employees will use the Help Center to
communicate with the gate building.
San Joaquin County PA-0900184 & 185\Union Pacific
Community Development Page 2
