QX - y9 - 03
QUARRY EXCAVATION APPLICATION
APPLICANT: AGGREGATES, INC.
OPERATOR: GEORGE REED, INC.
RECLAMATION PLAN
I. DESCRIPTION OF ENVIRONMENTAL SETTING:
This 81.5 acre parcel is located in the Eastern Portion of San Joaquin County. At
the present time 40 acres is barren; almond trees removed, and the remaining
40+/- acres is planted in an almond orchard with trees averaging 20 years. The
site is in a rural setting surrounded by open land and agriculture properties.
Allowing for required setbacks, 78 +/- acres within the 81.5 acre parcel will be
disturbed and reclaimed back to farming capability. This parcel is directly
adjacent to an existing quarry, owned by the applicant, which is expected to be
depleted in year 2000. Excavation at this site should not cause significant adverse
impacts on surrounding properties or the general public. Project site will be
totally reclaimed back to farming capability.
A. MAPS: Site access and topographic maps are attached.
B. GEOLOGY: This site is within the Modesto Formation which occurs as flat
terrace deposits above the Stanislaus River flood plain. Most of these terraces
are prime orchard lands. The site has varying depths of sand and gravel
deposits underlying the topsoil. The site is within an MRZ2 Zone as
Classified by the Division of Mines and Geology. (Ref: Mineral Land
Classification Study of the Stanislaus River Area, San Joaquin and Stanislaus
Counties, California).
C. HYDROLOGY: Groundwater depth is 40'+/-. Excavation will not reach
groundwater depth. Irrigation for reclamation purposes is obtained from on-
site well. There are no natural waterways on site and the area is not subject to
flooding or other natural hazard. No processing of materials occurs at the site;
so there are no waste discharge concerns.
D. SOIL ASSESSMENT: Topsoil in its current state and after displacement is
suitable for growing walnut trees upon replacement. All topsoil is retained
onsite and used for reclamation of the project site.
E. VEGETATION/WILDLIFE: The project site has been farmed for over 40
years. There are no known rare, threatened, or endangered species of wildlife
on or near the site. Various bird species and rodents/varmints may frequent
the site.
F. IN-STREAM MINING: Not applicable to the site/operation.
