According to Mr. Busolich, there are no buried tanks on the property. There are no visual signs
of any such tanks (ground settling, irregular ground, etc.). The prior owners could not be
contacted. Mr Marschall owns other property in the immediate area and has been working
to purchase this piece of property, so he has knowledge of the property history.
As previously stated, the site has been farmed with grapes. Chemicals have historically been
used in the farming operation. All chemicals are applied per manufacturer's recommendations
and are applied under permit. There are no chemicals stored on site. For a list of chemicals and
their applications, see Appendix.
The depth to groundwater in this vicinity is approximately 145 feet. This relatively deep
groundwater does not typically become severely impacted by pesticides, insecticides, or
fertilizers. The soil type is generally clay and sandy loam which is generally a deterrent to
groundwater contamination compared to other types of soil. The types of products used on this
site are consistent with the surrounding property.
According to the land owner, there are no known pesticide containers buried on the property.
When the Marschall's purchased the property, they disked the avenues between the vines and
uncovered a small area that appeared to be buried garbage. The rubbish consisted of bottles,
cans, and decomposed garbage. The material was gathered and taken to the Harney Lane
landfill. A visual inspection did not produce any evidence of buried containers. The field
investigation also did not yield any unusual (noxious) odors. Rainwater is disposed of by natural
drainage, percolation, or evaporation.
The site shows no potential problems with any source of contamination. The surrounding
property uses would not likely yield any sources of contamination based on visual observation.
Conclusion and Recommendation
v
Based on visual observation, County records, and testimony of the property owners, there
appears to be no surface contamination. Given the scope of this study, the probability of
subsurface contamination should be considered low and normal to this region. Since additional
ground water testing will be done in conformance with the Soils Suitability Report, no additional
study is recommended at this time. Based on visual observations, no corrective action is
necessary at this time.
According to the property owners, they have farmed the property for many years and plan to
continue farming. A new home is proposed on the small parcel. In the future, further
groundwater testing could be performed and should be considered in designing a domestic well.
As a precaution, soil testing could be performed at that time. These recommendations do not
imply there are contaminants.
2
C:/0399Surface and Subsurface Report
