` August 5,2005
NOA Project Number: E05091A
Product Active Ingredient 00 01 02 03
Surflan 4 AS Oryzalin Oryzalin X
Zinc Metalosate Exempt X X
The U.C.Davis Extension Toxicology Network(EXTOXNET)web site'was consulted for additional information on
/these chemicals. .
The EPA's Restricted Use Products (RUP) Report9 was searched for the chemicals reportedly
applied to the subject property. Based on this source,it appears that, of the agricultural chemicals
reportedly applied to the subject property, two are RUP's. The chemicals include Gramaxone,
containing Paraquat dichloride and Supracide 25 WP, containing Methidathion.
• According to EXTOXNET,Methidathion is a non-systemic organophosphorous insecticide
classified as an RUP. Effects due to acute methidathion exposures may include nausea, vomiting,
cramps,diarrhea, salivation,headache, dizziness,muscle twitching, difficulty breathing,blurred
61 vision, and tightness in the chest. High acute exposure may cause intense breathing problems,
including paralysis of the respiratory muscles. Methidathion is highly toxic to birds, bees and aquatic
organisms. It is of low persistence in the soil environment;reported field half-lives are 5 to 23 days.
Im There is little chance that this chemical will enter surface waters due to its short half-life.
Methidathion and its breakdown products are poorly bound by soils, and so may be mobile.
However, they have not been detected in any groundwater sources.
According to EXTOXNET,Paraquat is a quaternary nitrogen herbicide classified as an RUP and a
highly toxic compound in EPA toxicity class I. Many cases of illness and/or death have been
' reported in humans. The compound is moderately toxic to birds and many aquatic organisms. The
chemical is highly persistent in the soil environment, with reported field half-lives of greater than
1000 days. Studies have shown the half life in water to be as fast as 13.1 hours and as long as 23
vim weeks.
3.1.G Water Supply and Sewage Disposal System
One agricultural well is located on the property. The location of this feature is indicated on the site
map (Appendix A).
The EHD well and septic permit files were searched on August 1,2005 in an effort to obtain copies
of permits for any water wells or septic tanks on the subject property. Two septic permits were
found.A permit was issued to Jas Sanguinetti on July 18, 1988 for the new installation of a 1200
. $University of California,Davis,2004,Extension Toxicology Network(EXTOXNET),
http://extoxnet.orst.edu/ghindex.htrM.
9U.S.Environmental Protection Agency(EPA),June 2003,Restricted Use Products(RUP)Report.
8
V
