Mob- Peoples Organization for Land Preservation (P.O.L.P.)
aM Y • )w STRU rw=- Post Office Box 447 — Linden, California 95236
August 10, 1992
u 111992
Steven St. Sure . MWIUi,)I l _. J;..i``1 UEF7
San Joaquin County Planning Division PLANNING DIVISION
1810 East Hazelton
Stockton, C? 95205
RE: Minor Subdivision Referral, `LS-92-0156.
Peoples Organization for Land Preservation recommends denial of MS-92-0156.
A homesite parcel of 10 acres should be denied because the owner has not substantiated
his intention to continue farming on this parcel. Since his purchase of this
property last year, he has made other attempts to split this 60 acre parcel (VR-9-4)
to no avail Recently the Planning Commission has asked of 10-acre homesite
splits, "How long have you been farming this parcel?" and "What assurances are there
that these parcels will remain in agriculture?" It is the opinion of POLP that
the applicant cannot answer these two questions adequately to be granted this
subdivision.
The size of the parcel (60 acres) allows for a viable economic unit for farming.
A familv could live off a farm that size. Splitting 10 acres off would create a
homesite parcel that could be sold and never more considered farmland.
Also, the split would allow for a homesite on each parcel , thus creating a new
homesite in an environmentally sensitive area. The Calaveras River bank which this
borders is a Rip_ erian Habitat Corridor enhanced by a Wildlife Preserve directly to
the southeast.
T ank Tou for the opportunity to comment.
John E . ers, President
