[4] Continued.
the subsurface soils most likely possess an alluvial structure
nearest the river banks. The Soil Survey Map of San Joaquin County
indicates the subject property soil is a Columbia fine sandy loam.
The soil description along with the map can be found in the
Appendix. Permeability is moderately rapid in this type of soil ,
although it is possible for water to become perched in a stratified
substratum after heavy rainfall or irrigation.
The percolation tests conducted by Quality Control Inspection, Inc.
were performed in accordance with San Joaquin Environmental Health
Department regulations. A shallow percolation test was performed
on Parcel No. 1 and the DR. Deep percolation tests were not
performed on the two parcels since the encountered soil material
during the boring procedures at the shallow depth was very
conducive to favorable percolation rates. The percolation test
results for the two shallow test borings (42 in) were 1. 7 min/in
for Parcel No. 1 and 2 . 7 min/in for the DR. The last reading for
the DR illustrates a probable soil saturation condition.
The predominate soil type encountered during the test hole drilling
was a silty-sand and fine sand formation. This sandy soil
structure produces a relatively fast percolation rate for sewage
effluent as evidenced by the above percolation rates. In addition,
the walnut trees growing on the subject property appeared to be in
good health, which is one indication of a well-drained soil .
[5] LOCAL GROUNDWATER INFORMATION
The Spring 1992 "Lines of Equal Depth of Water in Wells" map
produced by the San Joaquin County Flood Control and Water
Conservation District indicates that the static water level is
located over 100 feet below grade in the area of the subject
property. It is difficult to determine the groundwater gradient
according to the District maps, although the flow direction is
3
