't
c
Frsince
egion hasbeen dry-land farmed since the middle-to-late 1800's. It became irrigated farmed
d the 1920's. There has been agricultural production on, and in the vicinity of the subject site
this time. The property is located 4,500 feet south of French Camp Slough.
INFORMATION FROM SITE RECONNAISSANCE AND INTERVIEWS
The following information was obtained visually or through an interview with Mr. Barber: The
trop _ contains no underground or above groan storaee tanks Ts/ASTs) and never has for at
least the past 10 ycars. This is documented by the fact that althoughIr. az er as owneC fhe
Pea
erty for the Hast two months he has lived across the street at 10411 Small Road for the past 10
s, and has he has never seen tanks on the properly. The previous owner was the Ms. Caroline
Plake Trust of South Lake Tahoe. Length of ownership by this Trust is unknown. The almond trees
have been farmed by Mr. Casey Kooyman for the past ten years. He has stated that no agrichemical
mixing has taken place on the property primarily because no well exists to pump dilution water.
It is a possibility that minute volumes of agrichemicals sprayed on almond orchards found to the
north and south may drift onto the subject property, if agrichemicals are used on this acreage. The
subject site can be considered in the predominant downgradient windshed to this adjacent almond
acreage. San Joaquin County Mosquito Abatement District sprays for mosquitos in the surrounding
open pasture land.
The entire acreage was walked and surveyed for evidence which may suggest surface and/or
subsurface contamination: Containers were not observed. No evidence of solid waste disposal was
noted, other than brush. The site was carefully inspected for environmental concerns originating
from discolored, disturbed/subsided soils, stressed vegetation or unusual/noxious odors. None of
these environmental indicators were present. As evidenced by the attached photographs, no
hazardous materials are stored on-site and there were no indication or observations of spills or other
items associated with hazardous materials.
An important concern associated with the environmental assessment of open properties is the issue
of buried pesticide containers or discarded items. It was an occasional practice to dispose of
containers or discarded items by this method many years ago. To detect these types of underground
[[En
facts is difficult even with the use of ground penetrating radar or other types of non-intrusive,
surface analyses. The land surface did not exhibit visual indicators for buried containers such as
acing of product residue, soil mounding, or soil depressions. It is usually only after a
taminant plume has impacted a domestic well that buried pesticide containers are discovered. If
ed items are discovered during underground utility placements, etc. on the new parcels, the
ironmental Health Department must be contacted immediately.
electrical transformer is found on a pole at the south end of the property, adjacent to Small Road.
ppears to be relatively new so it probably does not contain polychloride biphenyl (PCB) laden oil.
is transformer were to leak or explode, it would be the responsibility of the transformer owner to
gate any environmental contamination.
Page-2-
Chemey Consulting
