Fry Property
Page 3
The residences on parcel-1 and parcel-2 currently utilize on-site water wells for their source
of water. The county Health Department requires that samples be obtained for each property to
determine levels of nitrate and the presence of dibromochloropropane (DBCP).
Water was sampled from the on-site wells on August 26, 1997 and tested for the presence
of nitrates and dibromochloropropane (DBCP). For both parcels, test results indicated that DBCP
was non-detected and the level of nitrate was 27 mgll, which is below the Maximum Contaminate
Level (MCL) of 45 mgll. A copy of the test results is included in the Appendix.
VI. SOIL PROFILE AND PERCOLATION TESTS
Two test holes were excavated to a depth of 7.5 feet in the vicinity of the leech fields in
order to determine the soil profile in the general area. For approximate location of the test holes(PT)
see the Parcel Map in the Appendix. The soil profile holes were logged by an engineer and a
description of the soils encountered in the holes is contained in the Appendix. The upper 7 to 7.5
feet of material encountered in the test holes consisted of very fine to fine sand. The sand was
underlain by a highly cemented stratum of very fine to fine sand which continued to the maximum
depth explored. For a more detailed description of the soils encountered see the Log of Test Holes.
Due to the presence of sandy soils in the upper stratum, 3.0 foot deep percolation tests were
performed at each of the test hole locations. Two 8.0-inch diameter test holes were excavated and
2-inches of gravel was placed in the bottom of each hole. A 2.0-inch diameter perforated pipe was
then placed in each hole and backfilled with gravel. The test holes were filled with water 24 hours
prior to running the tests. The last half hours of the test readings were witnessed by a county health
official and the test data obtained is enclosed in the appendix. The percolation rates have been
adjusted to account for the gravel and pipe backfill. Calculations for this adjustment are on the test
data sheets.
A summary of the test results is presented next:
Diameter of Depth of
Test No. Hole in. Hole in. Percolation Rate (min/in)
PT-1 8 36 4.5
PT-2 8 36 4.5
