*../
To detect these types of underground artifacts is difficult even with the use of ground penetrating
radar or other types of non-intrusive, subsurface analyses. Given that the property was deep-
ripped in 1994 before planting the existing vineyard, shallow buried containers would have in all
probability, been uncovered. Mr. Lange has no recollection of any unusual discovery during this
ripping procedure.
The land surface did not exhibit visual indicators for buried containers such as surfacing of
product residue, soil mounding, or soil depressions. It is usually only after a contaminant plume
4 has impacted a domestic well that buried pesticide containers are discovered. If buried items are
discovered during underground utility placements, etc. on the new parcels, the Environmental
Health Department must be contacted immediately.
An electrical transformer is found at the south end of the property. It appears to be new so it
probably does not contain polychloride biphenyl (PCB) laden oil. If this transformer were to leak
or explode, it would be the responsibility of the transformer owner(PG&E) to mitigate any
environmental contamination.
From previous Nitrate Loading and Soil Suitability Studies done to the northwest, it is known that
there is a low concentration of nitrate in1he-wderlying drinking This can be
attributed to the comparatively dee static ground,
y
an har pan.down tte _ .saturatio .
PUBLIC ENVIRONMENTAL RECORD/DATA SOURCES
Static groundwater is found approximately 160 feet under the property as illustrated on the attached
1999 Lines of Equal Depth to Groundwater map. From the 1999 Lines of Equal Elevation of
Groundwater, the groundwater directional flow appears to be toward the west-southwest. A
groundwater depth of 160 feet can be considered a deep groundwater elevation which cannot be
easily impacted from serious point source releases and agrichemicals such as pesticides, herbicides,
or nitrates from fertilizers. The degree of impact from agrichemicals is particularly mitigated when
there are intervening layers of clay or hardpan soil down to the static water table depth, which is
demonstrated on the attached well logs from wells in proximity to the property.
Based upon the State Water Resources Control Board - GeoTracker System, there are no records of
above ground, or under ground (AST/UST) storage tanks near the subject property address. This is
illustrated on the attached GeoTracker Site Map, which shows no tanks near the site. There are two
leaking underground fuel tanks located near the town of Lockeford. These sites can be considered
downgradient (with respect to groundwater flow) and unable to impact the property. Potential
environmental impacts from past, present or future facilities within a one mile radius is unknown at
this time, but unlikely.
Records at EHD indicate that there are no hazardous materials sites adjacent or in proximity to the
property. The closest E5 sitee xs tTie Rott property, located north of the subject property at 22282
Clements Road. An exempt tank facility is located at this address. This site can be considered
cross-gradient to the property and unable to impact it.
Pa e -3-
Chesney Consulting
