Soil Suitability Study--APN: 229— 160—01--Parcel Nos. A and B; 11.53 & 10.71Acres,respectively--4
The soil character and color at various depths is usually as follows:
0" to 9" Reddish-brown in color, friable and a pH of about 5.4.
9" to 18"Redder in color and denser.
18"to 30" Clay resting on hardpan.
Below Hardpan—Friable and stratified.
Once the topsoil is saturated to the clay layer, the water will stand on the surface
until it evaporates and erosion is negligible.
Native vegetation is generally grass and a few shrubs.
The utilization this soil is put to is usually dry-farming and irrigated pasture
although almond orchards are also common in this area.
Drainage for this soil is listed as good surface drainage and imperfect subsurface
drainage.
The Storie Index Rating for this soil is 24%that means that the soil is rated fair
(20%to 39%)for growing crops.
The "Soil Survey of San Joaquin County, California,United States Department of
Agriculture Soil Conservation Service" issued October 1992 lists the soil type in this
general area as Veritas fine sandy Loam which is a soil listed as moderately well drained,
nearly level and in low fan terraces.
The annual rainfall in the area is about 11"and the annual air temperature is about
60 degrees Fahrenheit. The average frost-free period is about 270 days.
The soil color and character at various depths is as follows:
0" to 15" The surface layer is grayish-brown fine sandy loam.
15"to 54' The subsoil is pale brown or light brownish-gray fine sandy loam.
54' to 70" Variegated light gray and white weakly cemented to strongly cemented
hardpan.
Depth to hardpan varies and can be as little as 30".
Water may be briefly perched above the hardpan after periods of heavy rainfall or
irrigation.
This soil is slightly subject to erosion.
This soil is generally utilized to grow irrigated crops, orchards or vineyards and
some pasture and homesite development.
T)Pnnv W k T)nnnn M TnnP.0 166RI CtPinecnd Rnnd Far inn ('A 95i?(1 Phnne. f?O91 RIR—?R(15
