July 6,2005
NOA Project Number: E05007B
In regards to the existing contamination in the Tracy area, the 448-acre Tracy Defense Depot site
was an Army Supply Depot from 1942 to 1963 when it was turned over to the Defense Logistics
Agency as a source of potential groundwater contamination. Operations at the facility included
repackaging of leaking chemical containers, fumigating shipping materials,maintaining vehicles,
painting, storing chemicals,preserving metal parts, operating chemical and photographic
laboratories, storing and mixing pesticides and storing and treating liquid and solid wastes. Currently,
all solid hazardous waste is hauled off site to Federally-approved disposal facilities. The shallow
aquifer below the Tracy Defense Depot is contaminated with volatile organic compounds (VOCs);
i.e.,TCE,PCE and DCE.'
In addition,the Surface Subsurface Contamination Report was prepared by our office for the
property. That type of report is done specifically to assess contamination on site. Rather than
reiterate information our office cites the previous report in section 4.2 of the Soil Suitability Study.
" 5.2:As you noted,there was an error in the report as to our percolation test hole diameter.The
P` percolation test holes were drilled with a three inch diameter hand auger. When the drilling of the
holes is complete, the diameter of the hole is four inches.We have replaced our three inch diameter
-1hand auger with a four inch diameter auger, to avoid confusion and to insure that our holes fully
4 q comply with EHD requirements.
J, We appreciate your recommendations for this project and your continued interest in our work.
Best Regards,
NEIL O.ANDERSON&ASSOCIATES,INC. \AED G00 EU;
 O Na. 2151
/ CERTIFIED
r ENGINEERING
Rebe T GEOLOGIST Haskett,B.S.
