Iwo
Item No. 3
Her family rides horses and the dogs bark at the horses. The Irish
Wolfhounds are very large dogs. Occasionally, the dogs start barking
at 2 : 00 a.m. Mrs. Harris noted that she has dogs and so does her
renter .
Lana Blake, Tokay Colony Road, said she has two dogs. The Barrys '
dogs cause the other dogs in the neighborhood to bark. There are many
small children in the neighborhood and they need their rest. The dogs
cause the horses to panic. She said that there should be an adherence
to the 40 ' setback requirement.
Vicki Nannizzi , 12953 Tokay Colony Road, said she felt that there
should be fewer than 15 dogs on the property. She also said that the
Barry dogs cause the other dogs in the neighborhood get noisy.
Floyd Wood, 12847 Tokay Colony Road, said the Irish Wolfhounds look
ferocious and are noisy.
REBUTTAL: Mr. Barry said they have never had more than 11 adult dogs.
During a 1} year period of time, they have had 3 litters. They
average less than one litter a year. The Irish Wolfhound is not a
very popular dog and he could not find a place to take care of large
numbers of puppies. At one time they had 2 litters simultaneously and
most of those were gone within 10 weeks.
Mr. Barry said he plans to modify the barn for kennels. Irish
Wolfhounds are not vicious but they are territorial and will go up to
L the fence and bark at a horse. He said he intends to fix that problem
by fencing the property. He said that 9 people signed a statement
saying they were not in opposition. The rental property referred to
by Mrs. Harris was remodeled and it is now a residence. He had not
counted on that rental unit being occupied.
Mr. Barry said that paddocks will be constructed and this will keep
some of the barking down. He said he and his wife are concerned that
the neighbors find them acceptable. At times , the dogs do bark and
this is for a short period of time. He said he felt that much of the
concern of the neighbors is regarding property values. He and his
wife are also concerned about this.
Maria Barry also spoke in rebuttal.
Mrs. Satterness noted that the Commission received one letter in
favor, one letter in opposition and one letter of concern. Staff
received a phone call from a neighbor stating they had no opposition.
She pointed out that the Barrys submitted a petition.
PUBLIC HEARING CLOSED
Comm. Morri said that the Barry property is well maintained.
Comm. Bozzano said his concern was as to the noise problem. However,
L in the past, the Commission has given applicants the chance to prove
PC: 4/7/88 -2- MINUTES
