• Central Building Cluster
The central building cluster includes an asparagus packing shed, two shops, four
storage buildings, a house and garage, an office, a bathroom building, four
sheds, an equipment shelter, and two storage units. Mr. Marchini indicated that
the packing shed is only used for storage now, as asparagus is no longer an
economically viable crop. He stated that, in the past, the asparagus were
washed with water containing peracetic acid; when the washing was completed,
the water was discharged to a ditch to the north of the packing shed.
Two domestic wells are located near the packing shed, one to the north and one
to the south.
Two aboveground storage tanks are located to the east of the office and shops:
an approximately 1,000-gallon gasoline tank is located in secondary
containment, and an approximately 300-gallon diesel tank stands nearby. No
staining was observed near the tanks. Mr. Marchini pointed out a circular
building in which pesticide is stored; empty containers were stored in a fenced
area to the rear of the building. Two tires were stored near this area, and two
more were leaning against the eastern shop building; Mr. Marchini indicated that
these will be used in the future. An aboveground waste oil tank was located on
the western side of the northernmost storage building.
South of the packing shed was a large area dedicated to storage of old
agricultural equipment. Three drums were observed on the west side of this
area; Mr. Marchini indicated that they most likely contain waste oil. No leaks
were observed from the drums. At the far southern end of the equipment area,
an old fuel storage tank and a pile of waste tires were observed. Mr. Marchini
indicated that the tank was empty and had only been used aboveground. He
stated that he is working on disposing of the tires appropriately.
Three pole-mounted transformers were noted in the central building cluster.
Southeast Corner Building Cluster
The building cluster at the southeast corner of the Site includes four mobile
homes used by farm employees, a house owned by the Union Island Mutual
Water Company, a horse shed, and several smaller sheds and trailers. The
property line in this area excludes two areas owned by the Union Island Mutual
Water Company; however, as can be seen in Plate 5, the parcel lines do not
actually separate the house from the rest of the Site.
The domestic well is located between the Union Island Mutual Water Company
house and one of the employee houses.
•
LOGE 1522 4
