• Live Oak searched both databases on September 29, 2015 for any listed sites
within one-quarter mile of the Site. The subject Site was not listed on either
database. One facility was identified within one-quarter mile of the Site:
• Unocal Oil Company, Galli pad area, Union Island Field, Geo Tracker
Cleanup Sites. Live Oak reviewed information on file for this facility at the
San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department on October 2,
2015. According to the Soil and Groundwater Assessment Report by
Dames & Moore (1996), the Galli pad is located adjacent to the north and
west of the center of the subject Site. The report investigated the
presence of mercury in soil and groundwater near the blow-off valves of
the separators for the gas wells. Mercury was found to be present in soil,
including free elemental mercury at one location; however, the mercury
was not found to extend more than 0.5 feet below the ground surface.
Mercury was only detected in one groundwater sample; the level detected
was below the MCL. The file also contained a 1996 letter from Unocal
indicating its intention to remove the mercury-contaminated soil. The case
was closed by the California Regional Water Quality Control Board
(Regional Board) in 2012. The closure letter implies that the Regional
Board has no evidence that the soil removal ever took place; however,
based on the limited extent of contamination, Regional Board "staff do not
• consider the Site a cleanup site."
7.2 Environmental Health Department Databases
Live Oak reviewed the San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department's
Hazardous Materials, Hazardous Waste Generators, Underground Storage
Tanks, Aboveground Storage Tanks, Site Mitigation, and Leaking Underground
Storage Tanks lists dated August 2015, for facilities of concern within one-quarter
mile of the Site. The following facilities were identified:
• AM Farms, 9010 W. Howard, subject Site. This facility is included on
the Hazardous Materials, Hazardous Waste Generators, and
Aboveground Storage Tanks lists.
• Unocal Corp./Union Island Pipeline Co./Torch Operating Co./CA
Resources Prod. Corp., 9009 & 8018 W. Howard, adjacent to the north of
the Site. This facility is included on the Hazardous Materials, Hazardous
Waste Generators, Underground Storage Tanks, and Site Mitigation lists.
Live Oak reviewed records on file for this facility (9009) at the San Joaquin
County Environmental Health Department on October 2, 2015. According
to the Hazardous Materials Facility Inventory, this facility maintains
produced water/condensate, soap/foamer (surfactants), mercaptan
(tetra hydrothiophene), motor oil, nitrogen gas, waste oil, triethylene glycol,
• and Baker X-cide 102 (glutaraldehyde) on-site. A 1994 Complaint
Investigation Form indicated that a driver had noticed a mercaptan odor
LOGE 1522 8
