2 1 A i r p o r I Land Usc Commission
1' biologist and coordinated with the FAA. 'Tie citied resources recommend the use of another storm water
management method that does not provide for open water (e.g. deep, narrow ditches or underground detention).
Besides the conditions noted above, the following is a list of the standards and project design conditions specific
to compliance with the ALUCP by zone:
Zone 1 (Runway Protection Zone)-
• All land must be unused
• Storage of hazardous materials are prohibited
• Petroleum refining or storage is prohibited
• Hazards to flight is prohibited, including:
o Land use development that may cause the attraction of birds to increase
Zone 2 (Inner Approach/Departure Zone)-
* 30% of land must be left open
• Maximum limit of 50 persons per acre of land
• Maximum of 1 dwelling unit per 10 acres
• Chemical storage is prohibited
• Waterways that create bird hazards to flight are prohibited
• Locate structures maximum distance from extended runway centerline
• Airspace review required for objects>35 feet tall
Zone 3 (Inner Turning Zone)-
20% of land must be left open
• Maximum limit of 120 persons per acre of land
• Maximum of 1 dwelling units per 5 acres of land
• Prohibited uses are the same as in Zone 2
• Locate structures maximum distance from extended runway centerline
• Airspace review required for objects>35 feet tall
Requirements applicable in any airport safety zone:
1. New land uses that may cause visual, electronic, or increased bird strike hazards to aircraft in flight
shall not be permitted within any airport's influence area. Specific characteristics to be avoided include:
• Glare or distracting lights which could be mistaken for airport lights. Reflective materials are not
permitted to be used in structures or signs (excluding traffic directing signs);
• Sources of dust, steam, or smoke which may impair pilot visibility;
• Sources of electrical interference with aircraft communications or navigation. No transmissions which
would interfere with aircraft radio communications or navigational signals are permitted.
