November 23, 2004
NOA Project Number: E04140A
3.4 Existing Septic Tank Usage in the Vicinity
In an attempt to determine the septic system density for the vicinity of the Site, our office reviewed
a 1993 aerial photograph of the subject property available from Microsoft Terraserver. We counted
` the building clusters within one square mile of the Site, and made the assumption that each building
cluster has one septic system. Using this method,we estimate there are a minimum of 62 septic
systems per square mile in the immediate vicinity of the Site.
3.5 Septic Permit History in the Vicinity
No septic system permits for adjacent properties were located on file at the EHD.
Three neighbors were interviewed in 2002 and indicated that in general, they did not experience any
problems with their wells or septic systems. Their comments follow:
Virginia Wilder,J2344 W. Turner Road,Lodi;no problems with well or septic system. She
has owned the property for 20 years in 2002.
John Klower, 1604 W.Turner Road,Lodi;no problem with well. Septic system leach line
collapsed in 1999. System was 45 years old in 2002.
Edgar Mertz,2636W. Turner Road, no problems with the septic system or water well. He
has owned the property for 50 years in 2002.
3.6 Septic Repair Permit History in the Vicinity
No septic system permits for adjacent properties were located on file at the EHD.
3.7 Expected On-Site Maximum Septic Tank Usage
Maximum expected usage would be for the existing residence, a future legal second dwelling unit,
the winery staff, and the winery tasting room guests. The twelve (12) special events which may
` occur on site will utilize portable restrooms. The waste water generated by the special events is not
disposed on the property and is removed off-site by a service company (personal communication,
November 22-23, 2004).
The winery staff is five (5) full time workers and one (1) part time worker. The expected days of
operation are Friday thru Sunday 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The average visitor attendance is 120
people per week. We understand the existing septic system was designed for winery tasting room
use (personal communication,November 22-23, 2004).
` These assumptions are further discussed in Part II, Section 3, of the Nitrate Loading Study
4
