The winery is located on a 81.85 acre parcel owned by Spenker Ranch, Inc. The
Assessor Parcel Number (APN) for the property is 013-050-17. The San Joaquin County Use
Permit Application number is UP-93-3 (revised). The Soil Suitability/Nitrate Loading Study is
presented in two parts;Part I is the Soil Suitability Study and Part II is the Nitrate Loading Study.
The following reports present the result of our study.
The Soil Suitability Study (SSS) (Part I) was conducted to determine whether the soils are suitable
for use with a septic system. The study was performed according to the requirements of Section
9-1105.2(d) of the San Joaquin County Development. A major element of the field work included
conducting a percolation test that meets the required absorption rates as required by San Joaquin
County,Public Health Services,Environmental Health Department (EHD). The Nitrate Loading
Study (Part II) provides an estimate to the potential impact of nitrates generated from the Site to
shallow ground water.
In addition to conducting the percolation test, a review of published soil information, geologic
maps, and ground water information was performed to evaluate the suitability of soils for use with a
septic system.
Work for this project was started ' and involved completing a percolation test and collecting a
well water sample for 'trat and BC . The project was not completed by our office due to the
need for more informa'dofi regar the winery waste water treatment system. At that time, the
winery was looking at using a marsh or pond type treatment system. Now we understand that
winery waste water is land applied under a State Water Board permit to grasses on an adjacent parcel
owned by the Spenker Ranch, Inc. No further work was conducted on the project until Mr. Sikeotis
contacted our office in October 2004 and indicated that the EHD will be requiring completion of
` LODI ■ SACRAMENTO ■ MODESTO
ENVIRONMENTAL DIVISION 902 Industrial Way,Lodi,California 95240 ■209.367.3701 0 209.369.4228 ■www.noanderson.com
