A percolation test is the best method to determine the <br /> suitability of the soils for a septic disposal area. Please see the next section forercolati <br /> p on test <br /> results. Generally speaking, sandy soils have much greater potential for percolation than fine- <br /> grained or cemented soils. <br /> 6.0 PERCOLATION TEST INFORMATION <br /> F <br /> 6.1 Percolation Test Locations <br /> A site map indicating the locations of the percolation test holes is included as Plate 1 in the <br /> i appendix of this report. <br /> 6.2 Number of Percolation Tests <br /> `- Our firmerformed one e (1) shallow percolation test (3.5 feet) on parcel 1. The second hole, <br /> advanced to 8.5 feet, was used to determine if groundwater was within 5 feet of our <br /> percolation test. No groundwater was found to a depth of 8.5 feet below ground surface. <br /> 6.3 Boring Preparation and Presaturation <br /> r One (1) shallow boringadvanced was on parcel 1 with a hand auger on November 26, 2007. <br /> A 1.5-inch diameter PVC pipe with perforations on the bottom was used to measure the drop of <br /> water in the percolation test boring. Approximately 2 inches of "pea gravel" were placed in the <br /> bottom of the open soil boring, then the PVC pipe was installed on top of the gravel. "Pea <br /> Gravel"was then used to backfill in the annular space. <br /> Presaturation of the percolation test holes occurred on November 28, 2007. The depth <br /> of water used to pre-soak was 12 inches above the bottom of the boring. <br /> 6.4 Condition of Borings After Presaturation <br /> After the 24-hour soakeriod the r <br /> p p esaturated holes were found to be intact on November 29, <br /> 2007. The shallow hole on parcel 1 was found to be dry on the day of testing. <br /> 6.5 Percolation Test Procedure <br /> A percolation test was conducted for the boring on November 29, 2007 in accordance with the <br /> requirements of the EHD. A percolation test with duration of four4 <br /> ( ) hours was performed for <br /> the test hole.
