Turner Rd, Lodi, CA
PA-1000051 (SA)
Dear Mr. 'Escotto,
I am following up on our telephone conversation the other day regarding the Soil Suitability and
Nitrate Loading Report for PONDL Winery, PA-1000051 {SA) located at 665 W. Turner Road,
Lodi, CA, dated June 18, 2010. You had requested more information regarding the
recommended septic tank size for the winery restroom.
In the report recommendations (page 13, Item No. 4), 1 recommended an oversized septic tank
:size(beyond the minimum size used in the Onsite Waste Water Disposal Standards by the San
Joaquin County) to help mitigate nitrate levels in the septic wastewater. 1 did not provide the
tank size at that time.
AdditEonaily, in'discussing the tank size calculation, Mr. O Neill has brought it to my,attention
that he plans to have only'two'6MOloyees onsite eaC daylirather•tl3an th wfo ur-discussed in
the report;:this two-employee figure is consistent with his Planning application paperwork. 1 r
have revised the nitrate loading calculation to include only two employees, and the result is a
-pre?dicf6d__fta im6ffi"buildup of nitrates'in'016 aquifer of 14.04 mg/L.=N.`This result exceeds the
.maximum drinking water standard, ander rtigatlonAln the form of an oversized septic_system is
still needed.
The calculations to determine septic tank volumes are provided in the Disposal Standards.
When the proposed use levels for the winery are applied, a Calculated Tank Capacity (CTC) of
1,660 gallons is required for the project. The calculation is as follows:
Calculated Tank Capacity formula (San Joaquin County, Waste Water Disposal Standards)
CTC = Calculated Tank Capacity, CTC = BTC + ADF
BTC'= Base Tank Capacity, always 1,200 gallons
ADF = Average Daily Flow from anticipated use of the facility
Environmental 4- Engineering Geology Geophysics
