hq KLEINFELDER
2 SITE SETTING
2.1 SITE LOCATION
The site is located at 17950 Via Nicolo west of Tracy in San Joaquin County, California (Plate
1). The site is located to the southwest of Highway 580, and is accessible from the Patterson
Pass Road exit. The Musco Olive Products facility is located in the southwest '/4 of Section 34,
Township 3S, Range 4E of the Mt. Diablo Baseline and Meridian. The facility also includes
operations on an adjacent parcel located on the northeast 1/4 of Section 4, Township 3S and Range
4E.
2.2 CURRENT USE AND SITE CHARACTERISTICS
The site is occupied by the olive processing and packaging plant located in the northern portion
of the property (Section 34) adjacent to the Southern Pacific Railroad (SPRR) and Highway 580.
i An existing one million gallon storage pond is located southwest of the plant along the western
boundary of Section 34. Two surface impoundments are located to the northeast of the plant near
fHighway 580, and three approximately 3 acre process water checks are located near the southeast
corner of the facilities northern property boundary. An 84 million-gallon storage pond is
currently under construction and is expected to be completed by the end of this year. Land
t application areas include pastureland and some landscaped areas surrounding the facility in
Section 34 and pastureland located on an adjacent parcel located to the southwest (Section 4).
See Plate 2 for details.
The one million-gallon storage pond, a proposed 84 million-gallon storage pond location, and the
land application areas are accessible by unpaved roads. The site is situated near the flanks of
rolling hills with elevations ranging from approximately 200 to 540 feet above mean sea level
(msl). The Musco Olive facility is located on relatively flat terrain at elevations ranging from
200 to 280 feet above msl. Land application areas, especially in Section 4 are relatively steep
with elevation differences of about 240 feet.
2.3 REGIONAL AND LOCAL GEOLOGY
The site lies along the transition between the Great Valley and Coast Ranges Geomorphic
Provinces of California. Review of the California Division of Mines and Geology "Geologic
Map of the San Francisco — San Jose Quadrangle," indicates that the site is underlain by
E Pleistocene alluvium (plant area) and Miocene fanglomerate. The northwest.trending Midway
Fault is located adjacent off site to the west.
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Soil Conservation Service, "Soil Survey of San
Joaquin County, California" dated October 1992, soils at the site consist of Calla Clay Loam and
13498.WP2/ST02R534 Page 2 of 13
Copyright 2062,Kleinfelder,Inc.
