Our June 13'letter discussed the construction deficiencies identified by the
Mike Huggins of San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department(EHD) and our office. The
letter proposed modifications that would mitigate the deficiencies. Mr. David Welch, Senior geologist,
NOA,inspected the repairs performed by Applegate Septic and Sewer Company on June 18, 19,and 20,
2003 and has found them to be satisfactory. ,
The initial septic system construction began about the middle of May, 2003 and was completed
June 20, 2003. The main problems identified with the initial construction were that the bottom of the
leach line trenches were not level and the leach line pipe slope was excessive. In addition, the
distribution boxes were not level and contained an open bottom and cracking of the box. The leach field
drain pipe sloped down toward the seepage pit. The pump chamber of the last septic tank contained an
open baffle which needed to be sealed. An effluent pipe also needed to be installed for the last chamber.
Approximately two weeks of the time was spent by our office and EHD conducting elevation surveys and
analyses of the problem.
One additional change, not specifically addressed by the June 13'letter, was that the inlet
plumbing to the septic tanks was modified by Applegate Septic from our plans. Two waste water septic
pipes deliver waste water to the original two 2,000 gallon septic tanks from the facility. One 6 inch line
delivers approximately 80%of the waste water which runs through a 1,600 gallon septic tank near the
main office. Another 4 inch diameter line delivers approximately 40% of the flows generated from the
more recent plant expansion. Due to the difficult access to the inlet port of the existing primary tank, the
pipe from the original facility bypasses the two original 2,000 gallon tanks. This pipe now enters the first
of five new 2,000 gallon septic tanks. The other pipe has remained in place and enters the original 2,000
gallon tanks then enters the first of the five new 2,000 gallon septic tanks. These changes are acceptable
to our office.
'pER,OM1
%ri
