The
map shows the subject property located at an elevation of approximately 7 feet above mean sea level
and in a general area of moderate topographic relief, sloping to the east.
At the time of the site visit, both subject property parcels were irrigated agricultural land planted in
tomatoes; Parcel 26 included one small residential complex located near South Wing Levee. An
elongated pond started on the northern portion of the property and extended along the west side of
the internal levee. The subject property pulled irrigation water from the Old River, the residential
complex was not inspected, but included a domestic well and septic system. The subject property
is depicted in Figure 2; photographs of the subject property are provided in Appendix A.
3.0. REGIONAL GEOLOGIC/HYDROGEOLOGIC SETTING
The subject property is situated within the Great Valley Geomorphic Province of California,a large,
elongate, northwest trending, asymmetric structural trough. The Great Valley Province has been
filled to its present elevation with thick sequences of sediment ranging in age from Jurassic to
Recent, creating a nearly horizontal alluvial plain, extending from the Tehachapi Mountains in the
south to the Klamath Mountains in the north. The western and eastern boundaries of this province
are comprised of the California Coast Range and the Sierra Nevada, respectively.Rocks composing
the basement complex of the province have not been completely defined but are believed to be
metamorphic and igneous in origin. The northern and southern portions of the Great Valley Province
have been designated the Sacramento and San Joaquin Valleys, respectively.
The Modesto, Riverbank and Turlock Lake Formations and overlying Recent alluvium are the
principal source of domestic ground water in the 13,500 square-mile San Joaquin Valley Ground
Water Basin (Basin 5-22). This basin is drained primarily by the San Joaquin River. The nearest
surface water feature was the Old River, also called Salmon Slough, which extended along the south
and southeast boundary of the property.
As included in the report prepared by Environmental Data Research, Inc. (EDR) and provided in
Appendix D of this report, the U. S. Department of Agriculture's Soil Conservation Service
STATSGO (State Soil Geographic Database) soil maps showed the dominant soil composition in
the general area of the subject property to be MERRITT soil, a silty clay loam in a Class B
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
r
