Included in the report is a discussion of the extent of soil
contamination, hydrocarbons in the ground water, and a characterization of
stockpiled soil from the excavated area. Ground water direction was
determined by measuring water levels in the three on-site ground water
monitoring wells.
There are no ground water monitoring wells downgradient of the excavated area,
as indicated by the local ground water flow determined in the report. It was
discussed in our 7 December 1989 letter that additional wells may have to be
installed once the local ground water direction has been determined. At least
one well should be installed downgradient of the excavated area to assess the
quality of the ground water potentially impacted by the hydrocarbon-
contaminated soil , now excavated.
The existing and the new ground water monitoring well(s) should be sampled for
- - one-year - on a- quarterlly basis -for; benzene ethyl-benzene, toluene-, xylene;-
lead, total petroleum hydrocarbons, and water levels to assess if there is
contamination. After a year, we will evaluate whether or not the wells can be
abandoned.
If you have any questions, please call me at (916) 361-5673.
&U414, Y.
TWILA L.
