(AGE) on your behalf for
the above-referenced site. The report documents the installation of soil gas sampling points
V100 through V102 on 07 January 2011, and sampling of the three soil gas points on 28 August
2012.
High concentrations of total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as aviation gasoline (TPH-ag)
were detected in soil gas samples collected from V100 at 68,000 micrograms per liter (lag/L),
V101 at 12,000 lag/L, and V102 at 2,600 lag/L. These concentrations are above the
Environmental Screening Level (ESL) of 29 pg/L published by the San Francisco Bay Regional
Water Quality Control Board. High concentrations of benzene were detected at 3.1 lag/L in soil
gas samples collected from V100; this benzene concentration is well above the ESL of 0.28
pg/L and above the California Environmental Protection Agency's California Human Health
Screening Levels (CHHSL) of 0.122 lag/L, published by the Office of Environmental Health
Hazard Assessment. Toluene was also detected in soil gas sample V100 at 600 lag/L, above
the ESL of 180 lag/L and the CHHSL of 378 lag/L. Ethylbenzene was detected at 5.9 lag/L in soil
gas samples collected from V100, 5.0 lag/L from V101, and 4.7 lag/L from V102. These
concentrations exceed the ESL of 3.3 lag/L. Using a version of the Johnson and Ettinger Model,
AGE calculated the cancer risk at 1.3 X 10-8, above the industry standard acceptable cancer risk
of 1.0 X 10-8.
The EHD has also completed the Low-threat Closure Policy Checklist for this site and the
following impediments to closure have been identified:
• The nearest on-site domestic well is approximately ten feet from the northern-most of
three former underground storage tanks and this site is not within the service area of a
public water system;
