20 March 2001
AGE-NC Project-No 98-0533
a chilled container under chain of custody to McCampbell Analytical, Inc (MAI), a California
Department of Health Services(DHS)-certified analytical laboratory for analysis The samples were
analyzed for
• Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as aviation gasoline(TPH-ag) in accordance with
EPA Method 5030/8015M,
• Volatile aromatic hydrocarbons - benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylene (BTEX) with
methyl tertiary-butyl ether (MTBE) in accordance with EPA Method 8020,
• Fuel oxygenates - tertiary butanol (TBA), di-isopropyl ether (DIPE), ethyl tert-butyl ether
(ETBE), tert-amyl methyl ether (TAME), and MTBE in accordance with EPA Method
8260B, and
• Ethylene dxbromide (EDB) and 1,2 dichloroethane (1,2 DCA) in accordance with EPA
' method 8260
At the request of the PHS-EHD, a ground water sample from the on-site domestic well was also
collected and analyzed, water was allowed to run out of the well for approximately 20 minutes prior
to sampling to ensure that formation water was being produced
3.0. FINDINGS
Ground water elevation and flow direction were inferred from field data, hydrocarbon-impact to
ground water was quantified by laboratory analysis of the ground water samples
3 1 GROUND WATER GRADIENT AND FLOW DIRECTION
The elevation of ground water in each of the three monitoring well was calculated b subtracting the
' g Y g
depth to ground water from the surveyed relative casing elevations(Table 1) Depths to ground water
averaged about 70 feet bsg Ground water elevations at the site ranged from 13 13 feet(MW-2) to
13 23 feet (MW-3) below mean sea level The ground water gradient was calculated to be 0 0014
ft/ft directed towards the northeast Figure 2 illustrates the contoured ground water elevations as
measured on 17 May 2001
I3 2 ANALYTICAL RESULTS OF WATER SAMPLES
TPH-ag and toluene were detected only in the water sample from MW-2 and was present at
concentrations of 100 4g/l and 2 8 µg11, respectively No other petroleum hydrocarbons were
detected in ground water samples from the other monitoring wells and the domestic well
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc
