10/4/2019 II Writer-Reports
Background Information
Delicato Family Vineyards Manteca-operates a processing facility for wine in Manteca, CA. The facility has
(11)ammonia refrigeration systems that provides refrigeration capacity. RP-14 provides refrigeration to (72)
Wine Tanks and (1)Glycol Chiller.
A partial list of refrigeration components includes:
Refrigeration Plant 14
• (4)Screw Compressors
• (4)Oil Separators
• (1)Low Pressure Receiver
• (2)Ammonia Pumps
• (1)Glycol Chiller
• (2)Oil Pots
• (1)Subcooler
• (1) High Pressure Receiver
• (2)Evaporative Condensers
• (1)Emergency Pressure Crossover System
• (1) Diffusion Tank
Refrigeration Plant 14 operates as follows: high pressure liquid from the high pressure receiver is piped through
a series of liquid feed solenoid valves,an expansion valve, and into a liquid recirculator. From there, low
pressure liquid is pumped to each of the wine tanks, where It passes through a solenoid valve, hand expansion
valve and into the jacket of the wine tank.Low temperature liquid circulates through the jacket. As heat is
absorbed, the liquid ammonia vaporizes to form low temperature and pressure gas which passes through an
isolation valve and is returned to the liquid recirculator. The residual liquid is separated from the gas in the
recirculator and the gas is piped to the suction inlet on the compressors which elevate the temperature and
pressure of the gas.The high pressure discharge from the compressors is sent to a water cooled evaporative
condenser where the high pressure gas ammonia is liquefied and returned to the high pressure receiver.
Witnesses
Involved?
