Page 2 of 6 <br /> were transferred into 40-m1 EPA vials containing hydrochloric acrd as a preservative and transported <br /> 1 in a clulled container under chain-of-custody to Alpha Analytical Laboratories (AAL) All samples <br /> were analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline (TPH-g), and for volatile <br /> ' organics (benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes, BTE&X) including methyl-tertiary-butyl- <br /> ether (MTBE) in accordance with EPA methods 5030 and 602, respectively <br /> ' 23 PROBING AND SAMPLING <br /> From 31 July to 02 August 1996, three probe borings (probings) were advanced at the site using <br /> AGEs Geoprobe 5400 probing unit equipped with 1125-inch diameter probe rods and a 2 15-inch <br /> diameter soil sampling assembly Probing P1 was advanced to a depth of 40 feet below surface grade <br /> ' (bsg), probings P2 and P3 were advanced to depths of 55 feet bsg Probing locations are illustrated <br /> on Figure 2 Probing locations were approved by Ms Mary Meays of the PHS-EHD prior to <br /> advancement <br /> ' Soil samples were collected at 5-foot intervals using a Geoprobe soil sampling assembly and four <br /> brass sleeves After collection, the ends of the second brass sleeve were covered with Teflon sheets, <br /> capped and sealed with tape The sleeves were Iabeled, placed in a chilled container and transported <br /> to AAL under chain-of-custody <br /> ' All probing rods,sampling tools and sample liners used for sample collection were thoroughly rinsed <br /> with clean water after washing with a solution of Alconox between each sampling run All probings <br /> were backfilled over their entire depth with Portland Cement <br /> Selected samples were analyzed for TPH-g and BTE&X with MTBE in accordance with EPA <br /> methods 8015m and 8020, respectively <br /> 2 4 LOGGING AND BORING COMPLETION <br /> Soil was extruded from the remaining brass sleeves and screened for the presence of organic vapor <br /> 1 using a photo-ionization detector (PID Thermo Environmental 580A, 10 OeV, calibrated to <br /> isobutylene), and the readings were recorded on the boring logs Soil was described in accordance <br /> with the Unified Soil Classification System(see Boring Logs,Appendix C) Upon completion of soil <br /> _sampling, each boring was backfilled to surface grade with Portland Cement <br />,q A <br />
