1
Soil Suitability/Nitrate Loading Study Addendum Letter
Lange Twins Winery , Acampo, California Irerracon
May 21, 2019 Terracon Project No. NA197005
Terracon reviewed the EHD online permits for the site address of 1525 E. Jahant Road. A
percolation test permit (SR0043327), liquid waste permit (SR0045991)dated 2006 were available
for the initial septic system installation including the three existing leach lines with three seepage
pits. A building permit (BP-1100519) was available for the trucker south restroom. Based on a
review of well permit SR0044120/ SR0044121 dated 2005, a soil boring log was available for the
existing onsite well located on the southern portion of the site. Based on a review of the boring
log, onsite soils consist of stratified layers of sand, gravel and/or clay to depths of 725 feet bgs
Additional soil boring and well permits were available for the address. There were no repair
permits found for the address. Copies of the facility permit history is included in the Attachments.
Based on interviews with Mr. Lange, in general, the facility operates a standard 5 or 8 hour single
shift work day for approximately 8 to 11 months of the year. During the peak season which
comprises approximately 3 months of year, portions of the facility will operate between 10 to 24
hours per day depending on the building usage and time of year. Mr. Lange indicated the facility
is open daily for wine tasting between 12pm and 5pm with an average of 15 visitors each day.
The facility has approximately five special events per year. Mr. Lange indicated each special
event has 200 visitors per day.
In accordance with the San Joaquin County Onsite Wastewater Treatment System Standards
(OWTS)dated January 2017, Table 6.6-Water Use Computation table, the following average daily
flow rates have been selected to calculate the wastewater flows for the facility:
e) Bars or cocktail lounges 20 gallons per person (similar to a wine tasting customer)
o) Day workers at schools or offices 30 gallons per shift (similar to an office employee)
r) Industrial building with no food cafeteria 15 gallons per person (similar to a warehouse
employee)
x) Airports, per person (similar to a truck driver)
To estimate the wastewater flow for the facility, Terracon considered the standard and peak
operational hours, shifts, number days of operation per year, number of employees, number of
visitors, and special events. The maximum (max)daily flow rate and average daily flow rate were
calculated for each building. Refer to the Attachments, Table 2 for flow rates per building.
Maximum Daily Flow Rates (# People per day x# Effluent gpd)
The max daily flow rate for the existing facility during standard operating hours is 642.50 gpd.
During peak hours, the max daily flow rate for the existing facility is 1,651.88 gpd. The proposed
development (future tasting room stand alone restroom and future administration building) are
anticipated to add an additional 581.25 gpd during standard operating hours or 750 gpd during
peak hours for a total of up to 2,401.88 gpd during peak hours. The special events are anticipated
to add an additional 4,000 gpd (200 people x 20 gpd). Therefore, the maximum daily flow for the
facility is anticipated to be 6,401.88 gpd during peak hours five times per year when a special
event occurs.
Responsive ■ Resourceful ■ Reliable: 5
